Winning Homecoming Queen

Here is the longest and most rememberable day of my life:

"I'm extremely nervous and excited today!! I woke up this morning and went straight to school to practice the half time show with all the nominees: Mari Cruz, Macy, Jenna, Kimball (my partner), Eric, Cade and Peter. We ran everything we would be doing during the half time show and it was blowing my mind! All I could think about was "THIS ISN'T REAL!!!!!"

Homecoming Assembly:

Interviews:

I was incredibly blessed to have an amazing partner, Kimball, during this whole process! We were given mics and asked questions about each other and luckily we got the answers right for all the question! (yes, my favorite color is glitter) :-)

Dance:

NEVER HAVE I HAD MORE FUN THAN IN THOSE MOMENTS OF DANCING IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE SCHOOL AND CHEERED ON!!!!! The energy and compliments after could last me a lifetime of joy!!!! It was so much fun and wish we could perform it a million more times!! *disclaimer: I am NO dancer lol*

Also, we were made into our own GIF!?! (*crying* yearbook I love you!)

We danced to Thrift Shop by Macklemore, wore fur coats, chains, shades, and threw money. Best decision everrrr.

After school:

Parade:

All the homecoming royalties were pulled on a carriage around town waving to little kids and neighbors. #VIP or what!? In that moment, we completely felt like royalty! Daryl (our driver) and I bonded and I told him I felt like a princess and he told me I am and always will be. Oh Daryl.

Before the game I went home and wrote in my journal:

"So as of right now... I'm freaking out because I know there's no way I could have won Homecoming Queen since these girls are the most amazing people I know. They deserve everything. I feel like I have won already by being a nominee. I didn't even campaign at all. Lol I didn't go to any classes. I'm not in student council, cheer, sports, clubs... I'm just Charity and to me that's enough :-)"

I'm so dramatic I know! Haha in this moment I wish I could go back and give myself a confidence boost! You got this! Don't give your hopes up!! YOU MIGHT WIN!

So by this time, I'm on the field looking out at my student body and smiling as big as I can!

One by one, all the nominees are presented and introduced to the crowd. Mine went a little like, "Charity is America's sweetheart. She loves to perform. Her favorite color is glitter and has the biggest smile on campus". By this point I look over at all my amazing friends and wish them luck.

Then the drums roll and Cade wins Homecoming King!!! ahhhh!!!!

and then, the drums roll one more time. Everything that happened throughout the whole day flashes through my mind. I think of every nominee and how beautiful and talented they are and what an honor it is to even stand NEXT to them! I was completely distracted and then I heard

"And the 2017 Homecoming Queen is Charity Thruston"

I cried. I didn't process what was happening until a million photographers appear, roses are put in my hands, a robe around my shoulders, and a tiara on my head.

woah.

me trying to hide tears

fireworks

Every girl and every boy on that field could have won. These nominees are the greatest people I have ever met and am so lucky to know them. There is no way to express how happy and honored I am. Winning Homecoming Queen is the happiest thing that has happened! I just want to thank everyone I see and especially all my amazing friends for cheering me on. I love you. Today, a princess became a queen.

Here's a video of this whole experience:
